Ok, putting holiday pictures of yourself on your web page
is generally considered to be vain, self-indulgend and ridiculous.
So why did I do it?
- Well, basically the answer is: Why not?
- And: It's my web page. I can fill it with whatever I
want.
- But the main reason is that it irritates me that so many
people have homepages that are basically anonymous and impersonal. They
look like something right out of a factory, like rows upon rows of identical
suburban houses. Which is ok with houses, I suppose, since hardly anyone
can afford a custom build house that shows a personal touch, but I don't
see a reason to have a web page that looks like this.
- Another thing is that I'm not good in remembering names
and people.
Especially at meetings where 20+ people are present and you just get the
list of names after the meeting.
So I like to look at peoples web sites after the meetings and try to figure
out which name matches which person. Unfortunatly most sites have either
no picture or just one of those ugly passport style images. Having a reasonable
number of holiday snapshots makes it easier for other people to remember
who you are. (Even though other people seem to have little problem remembering
me. Don't ask me why. Ask them.)
- And the last thing: If you don't like my holiday snapshots,
go somewhere else. No-one is forcing you to look at the pictures. [At least
I hope so. If there's sinister conspiracy that forces people to look at
web pages tell Oliver Stone about it. There's probably a movie contract
in that somewhere...]
The annoying thing with people showing you holiday pictures in person is
that it's hard to get away.
On a web page escape is just a button-click away.
